Why Gmail? What if I don't like Gmail?
You might wonder why we have chosen Gmail as the central synchronization point.
What some people love others hate. This also extends to the companies providing free web email. Many people have strong opinions about Google, Microsoft, AOL and Yahoo as companies.
We have used technology criteria in deciding to use Gmail. The central point is the support for the Internet Message Access Protocol, or IMAP. Of the big web mail providers, only Gmail and AOL provide this support. Without IMAP there is no email synchronization. It is as simple as that.
Gmail is more widespread than AOL and it provides many functions that are not supported by AOL, so we chose Gmail.
We have also made one fundamental non-technical decision: We trust that Google will handle our email with respect.
If you do not want to use Gmail our solution can still work for you! You will need another IMAP server as your central synchronization point and you will have to modify the configuration. You will be able to find more information on how to do this on our web site.
