<title>Subject: Thunderbird and Gmail - by: Anders Vinther</title>
            <link>http://www.easy-email.net/forum/easy-email-forum/thunderbird-3-0/thunderbird-and-gmail#51</link>
<description>By email we have received the following question from Richard:
 Hi,

I'm leaving to go round the world on September 16th and I'm trying to set up my Thunderbird to sync with gMail.

I've got different email accounts that I use in Thunderbird - richard@xxxxx.com; richard@yyyyy.com; richard@zzzzz.com; etc

Do I need to set up a different gMail account for each of these Thunderbird addresses?

Many thanks,

Richard

In the Advanced Guide you will find detailed instructions on how to set up the Easy-Email solution to support multiple email addresses.

But to answer your question you will only need one Gmail address.

This enables you to check all your email with one login when you are away from your own computer...

I hope this answers your question.

Have a fantastic trip ;-)

Thanks,

<title>Subject: How do I use my own IMAP server? - by: Anders Vinther</title>
            <link>http://www.easy-email.net/forum/easy-email-forum/general-discussion/how-do-i-use-my-own-imap-server#50</link>
<description>We received this question via email:

&quot;So if I have my own server with IMAP I can still use Easy-Email and how does that work?&quot;

Yes, you can indeed use your own IMAP server.

The email synchronization process depends on the IMAP technology for synchronizing your email.

The Easy-Email guides use Gmail as the IMAP server for two reasons:
It's free
It adds extra functionality beyond the a standard IMAP mail server, which makes your life easier

If you chose to use your own IMAP server there are a number of functions you need to make sure your IMAP server provides for you.

These are:
Spam filter: Gmail has a very good spam filter. You will to make sure your IMAP server has a spam filter too.
POP Mail Fetcher: This is a function to automatically pick up email from other email accounts POP Mailboxes. If your IMAP server cannot provide this function you will have to forward email from your other email accounts to the email address you use for email aggregation.
Webmail Interface: One reason why the Easy-Email solution is brilliant is because you can get to all your email from any computer with an internet connection. This is only possible if your IMAP server has a Webmail interface.
Mail Server Backup: You will want to make sure your IMAP mail server is regularly backed up

This is not meant to be an exhaustive list.

Cheers,
