Sync Personal Email
Thought I'd drop you a quick note on my experience. I haven't looked at the videos; really did not have time to spend on those and my glance at the guide led me to believe that the videos are very basic.
I modified my existing Gmail account to synch my Verizon email account and set it up on both my netbook and laptop. It probably took 15 to 20 minutes on the first PC and about 10 to make the changes on the second one. I'm on the road, but when I get home I'll likely put it on my home desktop as well. I've been using Thunderbird as my non-work client for some time, plus I'm fairly computer-literate so my experience is atypical.
Since I have an Exchange server for work email, I can access it from my mobile PC's and phone easily, but your solution is an elegant method of solving the access problem with my personal email account. Webmail (even Gmail) is unacceptable to anyone used to a real email client like Thunderbird, and using the email client on my phone is painful.
Many thanks for the solution. I still need to wade through the appendix to see if I can get the outbound email to go through the Verizon server, but other than that I'm running fine with no hiccups. Skimmed your advanced guide, made the changes, sync'ed the account, and it was off to the races.

Cork
