Known issues

This section will help you to consider your choices before setting up Easy-Email.

Some email clients, while perfectly good for normal email use, are not as advanced as others or do not offer all of the functionality that is useful for email synchronization.

The table below shows exceptions. Most email clients do have the following capabilities so we only mention issues relating to clients that do not provide these capabilities. More detail is provided for each client further down in the table.

Function

Issues with certain clients.

POP emails from this client to another client

Not from free Yahoo. Yahoo Plus can do this at $19.95 a year. Be careful if you are looking at signing up to some other free webmail accounts. Some offer free webmail but their upgrade or paid for version is the one with POP. Others allow you to POP in but not POP out... a bit cheeky really!

Start a draft email and finish it in another client

Not possible in Outlook 2003 or 2007 or Outlook Express.

Must be online in Thunderbird to start a draft email and finish it in another client.

Automatic sending of signatures that match the email address from which you are sending mail.

Not automatic in Gmail.

Not automatic in Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail.

Thunderbird 2.0 is the simplest we have found to date.

Automatic sending of email from the email address it was sent to

Not automatic in Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail.

Known Issues with specific email clients

Windows Mail

  • If you use a custom outgoing server you will want to store sent email. However this will give you duplicates in your sent mail folder of all email sent via the Gmail outgoing server.

  • If you change the email address you are sending an email from, the signature is not updated automatically.

  • When you reply to an email it will always be from your default account regardless which email address the email was sent to originally. You have to change the sending email address manually.

  • The path for folders is not correctly configured. We show a workaround but it takes more work to setup.

Windows Live Mail

  • If you use a custom outgoing server you will want to store sent email. However this will give you duplicates in your sent mail folder of all email sent via the Gmail outgoing server.

  • If you change the email address you are sending an email from the signature is not updated automatically.

  • When you reply to an email it will always be from your default account regardless which email address the email was sent to originally. You have to change the sending email address manually.

  • Path for folders is not correct. We show a workaround but it takes more work to setup.

Outlook Express – does not work well with multiple email addresses. We therefore do not provide an advanced guide.

  • During testing of Outlook Express with multiple email addresses we experienced odd behaviors. Outlook Express does not handle outgoing emails well when multiple email accounts are set up with IMAP.

Outlook 2007

  • Draft emails are stored in the local folder on the computer – not the Gmail drafts folder. This is due to a limitation in Outlook. This means you cannot start an email in another client and finish it in Outlook or vice versa.

Outlook 2003

  • Mail sent from Outlook 2003 via a non-Gmail outgoing server will be marked as unread in the Sent Mail box.

  • In Gmail the email will appear as (unknown sender).

  • When you reply to an email it will always be from your default account regardless which email address the email was sent to originally. You have to change the sending email address manually.

  • Draft emails are stored in the local folder on the computer – not the Gmail drafts folder. This is due to a limitation in Outlook. This means you cannot start an email in another client and finish it in Outlook or vice versa.

Thunderbird 2.0

  • You can only store draft emails when you are online! This is because draft messages are stored in Gmail.

  • None that relate to the Easy-Email solution.
