Gmail Sync: access your email offline!
If you want to access your webmail email offline, synchronizing your webmail with an email client will allow you to manage all your email from anywhere, online or offline.
You can setup Gmail to manage your Hotmail, Yahoo (not the free version) or Aol (or other webmail) address so that you can use that email address offline also.
Email Offline
Most people who use webmail believe that the internet connection is an essential part of using their email.
Well you do need it to check new emails and send emails that are already written,
but you don't need an internet connection all of the time. This is the main advantage that (non-webmail) email clients have over webmail.
You can download your email while you have a connection, read and answer your emails at leisure without a connection, then send them when you have a connection again.
And you don't have to even use a Gmail address if you don't want to, you can continue to use a company address or a hotmail address or any other address that has POP enabled.
Just think...
- If you've forgotten the name of the person you're going to meet and you're already in the car on the way there... just look up your emails and find the name - without an internet connection
- If your internet connection drops unexpectedly you can still access and work on your stored emails, you can still compose new emails and you can still access your contacts
- If your internet connection is slow you can download your emails while you're doing something else, work on them at full speed and send them while you're doing something else interesting
- You don't have to wait for large attachments to upload before starting to compose your next email
- You can work on your emails on a train or a plane or in a park or even on a remote beach!
If you currently use webmail, including Hotmail, Yahoo, Aol or other types of webmail, and you are not already using an email client, we recommend that you start with Thunderbird but you can also use Outlook or any other email client you are used to.
