Set up Gmail to manage multiple email addresses using Gmail POP3

POP stands for Post Office Protocol.  This is the function that allows Gmail to go and get your emails from your other email accounts and bring them into Gmail. In Gmail you can POP up to five addresses into the one Gmail address.

For example Gmail POP3 will go to Hotmail's server and pick up any emails addressed to your Hotmail address and download them to the Gmail server.

You could do the same with a company address and any other email account that allows POP3.

The two key types of email protocol are POP and IMAP.  Gmail supports both which allows it to manage all your email addresses and to synchronize your emails.

Once you set up Gmail to POP all of your emails from all of your addresses you:

• save the hassle of logging in and out of various email accounts
• manage all of your emails in one window
• can choose to send your emails from Gmail as if they come from your other addresses

If you have more than five email addresses you can also forward emails to Gmail. This is also explained in the Easy-Email Essential guides.

A note on other webmail providers

Hotmail and AOL both allow POP so Gmail can access their servers and pick up your emails. Yahoo does not allow this function unless you upgrade to Yahoo Plus.
