A very simple email management trick in Gmail is to use stars.

There are various different ways of using stars and you can set up the system that suits you best.  You can choose different colours and styles of star and they are very simple to add and remove.

One way to use them is to add a star to emails that are urgent or emails that form your To Do list.

To add a yellow star simply click on the star outline next to the email and it will turn yellow.

To setup further star styles and colours in Gmail:

In the top right hand corner of your main gmail page click on Settings > Labs and look for Superstars.  Click enable.

Then go to Settings > General > Superstars and you can choose which stars you wish to use.

Back in your inbox when you click on the star outline once it will be yellow and on each subsequent click it will rotate through the stars you have chosen to be active.

So you can have a yellow star for To Do, a blue star for funny, an exclamation mark for urgent.... have fun!
