Set up a free gmail account

How to setup a Gmail account
Go to www.gmail.com.
Click on Create an account in the bottom right of this page and fill out the form that appears.
Note: strong passwords contain a mixture of letters and numbers, lower case and capitals. Google will tell you if your password is strong. If not we recommend you go back and change it!
Click on go to my account and you'll see some messages straight away from Gmail to help you get started.
Note! You don't have to tell everyone you've changed address to a Gmail address. You can keep using your old email address and account but manage your emails through Gmail. And you can even send emails from Gmail that look like they've been sent from your other email addresses. The Easy-Email Advanced Guides show you how.
Once your new Gmail account is setup you will probably want to import your contacts and old email.
Google makes it very simple, just click on the link in the first email they send you!
