Mac OS contains a component that permits you to backup and restore your email and contacts.
Important! This way of backing up your emails is not suitable for IMAP. Once email synchronization is set up you will need to use a different system of backup.

Backup all emails in Apple Mail
Follow these steps:

Create your own folder, in our example the folder is named backup and it is found on the desktop.

Click Finder.
Go to your Home folder.
Click Library.

Search for the folder Mail.
Right click on the folder Mail.
Click Copy “Mail”.

Go to the folder that you have created in the first step, in our example it is called “backup”.
Right click anywhere inside the folder.
Click Paste Item.

Go again to Library.
Click on the folder Preferences.

Search for a file named com.apple.mail.plist
Right click on this file.
Click on Copy “com.apple.mail.plist”

Go to the folder that you have created in the first step, in our example it is called “backup”.
Right Click and paste the file “com.apple.mail.plist” inside the folder “backup”.
Finally, your folder will contain these two items.
The backup is complete. You can save this folder on a usb drive, external hard disk, etc.
