If you currently use Outlook Express as your main email client you will have all your emails stored here. You should backup your emails when you backup everything else on your computer.
This article explains how you make a backup of all the data stored in Outlook Express and how to restore the data again.
A company called Genie-Soft has released a free Outlook Express Backup program. It can backup all of your email folders and contacts.

Backup your emails
Follow these steps:

Close Outlook Express if it is open.

Install the backup program.

Go to Start → All Programs → Genie-Soft → Outlook Express Backup V6.5

Select Easy Layout.
Tip! Normal layout gives you many more options such as encryption of the backup file.
Click OK.

Give the backup a name and select a location, which is easy to remember.
Optionally provide a password.
Click Next.

Select the Identity you wish to backup. You can select more than one.
Select the Windows Address Book (WAB) if you want to backup your contacts.
Select the folders and other items to be backed up from within the Identity.
Click Next.

Verify the selections made for your backup.
Click Backup Now.

The backup completes.
Click Yes to perform a verification of the backup data.
This completes the backup procedure.
