Do we need to explain why backups are important? ;-)

This article explains how to backup your Thunderbird emails.

Windows users can download a free program, MozBackup, to make the backup easier. Follow our instructions below.

Linux and Mac users can get advice on how to backup their emails in this article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

Mac users can also find a free program here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30601.

Important! This way of backing up your emails is not suitable for IMAP. Once email synchronization is set up you will need to use a different system of backup.

 

Backup your emails in Thunderbird 2.0 (Windows)

Follow these steps:

  • Download the program here: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

  • Install the program.

  • Close Thunderbird 2.0 if it is open.

  • Go to Start → All Programs → MozBackup → Mozbackup to start the program.

  • Click Next.

  • Select Backup a profile.
    Select Mozilla Thunderbird.
    Click Next.
    Operation type

  • Select your profile.
    Optionally change the Backup directory.
    Click Next.

  • Choose to use a password or not. We don't, so click No.
    No

  • Leave the default settings to backup emails, contacts and other settings.
    Click Next.
    Components selection

  • The backup is created.
    Click Finish.
    Finish
