Do we need to explain why backups are important? ;-)
This article explains how to backup your Thunderbird emails.
Windows users can download a free program, MozBackup, to make the backup easier. Follow our instructions below.Linux and Mac users can get advice on how to backup their emails in this article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

Important! This way of backing up your emails is not suitable for IMAP. Once email synchronization is set up you will need to use a different system of backup.
Backup your emails in Thunderbird 2.0 (Windows)
Follow these steps:

Download the program here: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

Install the program.

Close Thunderbird 2.0 if it is open.

Go to Start → All Programs → MozBackup → Mozbackup to start the program.

Click Next.

Select Backup a profile.
Select Mozilla Thunderbird.
Click Next.

Select your profile.
Optionally change the Backup directory.
Click Next.

Choose to use a password or not. We don't, so click No.

Leave the default settings to backup emails, contacts and other settings.
Click Next.

The backup is created.
Click Finish.
