Turn off an email account

Initially you setup email synchronization without making changes to your old email setup. This allows you to try out Easy-Email without affecting the way you used to do email.
When you have decided which solution is right for you, you need to turn off either your old email setup or the Easy-Email setup. This section explains how to turn off an email account.

In this context an email account is simply the settings in Thunderbird 2.0 you use for downloading your emails. Turning off an account just means you will stop downloading emails the way you used to. You can always come back at a later time and turn the account back on again should you wish to do so.

There are two types of accounts: IMAP and POP. Your old email account is most likely a POP account. In the Account Settings window the IMAP accounts have a tab called Offline & Disk Space, while POP accounts have a tab called Disk Space.

To turn off a POP account follow these steps:

  • Go to Tools → Account Settings...

  • Select the Server Settings tab for your POP account.
    Click Advanced.
    02_Server_Settings

  • Uncheck Include this server when getting new mail.
    Click OK.
    Include server

  • You can manually check mail on this account if you should wish to do so.
Click the little arrow next to Get Mail.
Click on your old account name.

Unfortunately you cannot just turn off an IMAP account. You will have to remove it. If you wish to keep your account settings make sure you make a note of them before removing the account.

Follow these steps:

  • Go to Tools → Account Settings...

  • Select the account you wish to remove.
    Click Remove Account.
