Windows users can download a free program, MozBackup, to make the backup easier. Follow our instructions below.

Linux and Mac users can get advice on how to backup their emails in this article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup

Mac users also have a choice between two different free programs:

• MaBuRe: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/mabure.html.
• Email Backup: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30601.

Important! This way of backing up your emails is not suitable for IMAP. Once email synchronization is set up you will need to use a different system of backup.

Backup your emails in Thunderbird 3.0 (Windows)

Follow these steps:

• Download the program here: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

• Install the program.

• Close Thunderbird 3.0 if it is open.

• Go to Start → All Programs → MozBackup → Mozbackup to start the program.
  

• Click Next.
  

• Select Backup a profile.
  Select Mozilla Thunderbird.
  Click Next.
  

• Select your profile.
  Optionally change the Backup directory.
  Click Next.
  

• Choose to use a password or not. We don't, so click No.
  

• Leave the default settings to backup emails, contacts and other settings.
  Click Next.
  

• The backup is created.
  Click Finish.
